What’s in the green room?

My New Jordy Chopper is something to be desired in many aspects regarding “radical change” in the term of surfboard design, however, this has always been a myth as to what’s accepted with regards to traditional surfboard designs or shapes. In the past, we have seen strange tails and nose shapes emerging, looking like they out of space. The fact is that our shaping pioneers have being dwelling in this “psychedelic-futuristic” form of shapes many years back in the early 70’s – so this design is no stranger to global surfing.

the new chopperWith regards to the unexpected, the Jordy Chopper has a much straighter parallel outline in template design from nose to tail.  The “swallow/diamond” combination of this tail, reduces drag considerably, giving us looseness as the strong double concave hull adds lift when doing rail to rail transitions. The wider unique diamond nose, with its lower entry rocker, has two purposes. It adds value to catching waves and reduces nose diving on steeper take-offs as added volume throughout, makes paddling a dream. The straighter bottom curve, enhances speed off the bat so to speak, and the bottom “tri-vent-hull” is the main essence of its success in this design, gaining lift, and putting speed under your feet from take-off to finish, as width and volume in the tail when pressure is applied, will give us more speed when surfing in slop or gutless waves. The hydrodynamics in this model, play a big part in our modern surfing nowadays, as we see our high performance professional surfers leaning towards testing and riding these unconventional designs in the hope of getting an edge in every aspect regarding their performance as a whole and this is why it was challenging for me to design our version.

My main focus has been to pay more attention to the moderate boxy rail tuck under –  as this is where the rail criteria lies, as we experience rail to rail transitions, increasing speed, and we spend more time using them, going back-hand or front-side!  It’s very important that we have both options on offer – bite and hold, so power carves/hacks and good deep bottom turns can be achieved, and this is where I felt the other brand designs lacked. PU or XTR Foam is our friend, so use it to work for us, wood we use for fires, to keep us warm!

The Jordy Chopper is surfed 4″ to 6″ shorter than your regular board and carries a good volume throughout. Shorter is always easier to surf than larger, so we recommend this model for anyone that’s stoked to feel a change in there surfing.  The fin setup only comes as a 5 fin Quad fin setup and that will give you all the options ever needed!
